During the day when the General Conference of the members of the Order of Architects was held, there was an opportunity to experience a moment of cultural insight related to one’s professional activity. The cues were provided by the venue chosen and the topic for the meeting, โ€œSCIC: A Journey in Design in Parma.

“The evolution of kitchen furniture from the 1950s to the present”: this was the title decided upon to best simplify the concepts that were expounded by the speakers. Cecilia Ferlini, architect and professor of art history, delved into the transformation of the kitchen environment during the 20th century. Lorenzo Marconi, managing director of SCIC, described the industrial fabric of Parma from the 1950s to the 1970s, highlighting the collaboration with Fratelli Castiglioni and the innovations introduced with models such as Lunascic from 1969 and Conchiglia from 1972. Finally, Alessandra Feliziani, architect and project area manager, discussed the current state of the company, while Mauro Mazzarini, foreign sales manager, explained the international markets of reference: โ€œSCIC had long wanted to open up to the city: the Order of Architects gave us the opportunity to create a strong link with the reality in which we grew up. We export kitchens to 30 countries. SCIC looks with great attention to export, while maintaining its own Italian style: we try to merge and interpret local cultures with made in Italy,โ€ explained SCIC CEO Lorenzo Marconi Fornari.

At his side was also the president of the Order of Architects, Daniele Pezzali: โ€œThe 2023 Accountability Meeting ascertained that the balance sheet is more than positive: one of our main focuses is on the theme of professional training with many events put on. On the topic of training, the new year started with two ethics opportunities.

The training event in collaboration with SCIC was an opportunity to examine the state of the art of design within the world of kitchens and ‘furniture. We were able to show colleagues a type of industrial architecture from the 1960s that is still very interesting today.”
